Welcome Professor Albert Galy as Editor-in-Chief of Earth and Planetary Science

2023-09-26

We are pleased to announce that Professor Albert Galy has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of Earth and Planetary Science (ISSN: 2810-9732).

Albert Galy has been appointed full professor at the Université de Lorraine since October 2013 and is based at the Centre de Recherches Pétrographiques et Géochimiques (CRPG). Before that, he held teaching positions (Assistant Lecturer to Senior Lecturer) in Earth Sciences at the university of Cambridge (UK), firstly appointed in 2000. He was a post-doc with Sir RK O’Nions in Oxford and a Ph.D. student of C. France-Lanord at CRPG, graduating in 1999. His PhD work led to important constraints on the sources of dissolved and particulate elements to Himalayan rivers. During his stay at Oxford & Cambridge Universities, he has overseen the establishment of chemical and analytical protocols for Ca, Mg, Fe, Ge, Nd and Pb isotopic analyses by MC-ICP-MS, carried on the study of the effect of the erosion of mountain belts (Himalaya, Taiwan, Western Alps, Southern Alps, Cascade range) on the C-cycle, untangled the effects of boundary exchange, hydrology and terrestrial weathering on marine Nd- and Pb-isotopic compositions at G-I timescale, set up the foundations for the use of Mg- Ca- and Ge-isotope in environmental geochemistry and applied those tracers to the study of primitive meteorites. Since his arrival at CRPG, he has set up a comprehensive study of the sedimentary record of past erosion and weathering around Tibet by strengthening its links with the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research of the Chinese Academy of Science and by participating to IODP Exp. 354. He has authored or co-authored more than 146 WoS listed publications.

We warmly welcome our new Editor-in-Chief and wish him every success in helping the journal achieve many milestones.
