Earth and Planetary Science—Aims and Scope Update

2023-10-30

We are pleased to announce that, with the Honorary Editor-in-Chief Prof. Dr. Zheng-Xiang Li, the Editor-in-Chief Prof. Dr. Albert Galy and the Associate Editor Dr. Maria Gritsevich’s suggestion and for the better development of Earth and Planetary Science in the future, we adjusted the aims and scope of Earth and Planetary Science, which are outlined below.

Aims and Scope

Earth and Planetary Science (EPS; ISSN 2810-9732) is an international, gold open access journal that publishes both primary research and review papers on the study of Earth and planetary systems. Our goal is to foster research that adopts a systemic approach, addressing not only processes within individual layers of Earth and planets but also the intricate interactions and feedback mechanisms that characterize many complex planetary systems, transcending traditional disciplinary boundaries. EPS is committed to disseminating cutting-edge scientific ideas supported by robust multidisciplinary observations.

Within the Earth System Science, we welcome contributions related to various planetary layers, including the core, mantle, and crust, as well as the hydrosphere, biosphere, atmosphere, magnetosphere, and the interplay among these components. The Planetary System Science component of EPS' scope includes the study of celestial bodies beyond Earth. This encompasses planets, moons, asteroids, comets, meteoroids, dust, and exoplanetary systems. We encourage research that explores the formation, evolution, and dynamics of planetary bodies, as well as that of their environments.

The scope of Earth and Planetary Science encompasses a wide array of geoscience and planetary science disciplines, including, but not limited to:

  • Geology
  • Geophysics
  • Geochemistry
  • Tectonics and geodynamics
  • Paleontology, and origin and evolution of life
  • Processes controlling the formation of planetary resources
  • Climate science
  • Atmospheric science
  • Planetary sciences

Our journal invites researchers from across the globe to submit their work for publication, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in Earth and planetary system sciences. We encourage innovative and interdisciplinary research that expands the horizons of our understanding of these complex systems.
