    Call for Papers: Special Issue on Sustainable Development of Bioenergy in Agricultural Systems: Economic Perspectives and Global Challenges

    Research on World Agricultural Economy (RWAE) is pleased to announce a call for papers for a special issue on "Sustainable Development of Bioenergy in Agricultural Systems: Economic Perspectives and Global Challenges".

    The special issue aims to investigate the sustainable integration of bioenergy within agricultural systems, with a specific emphasis on economic considerations and pertinent agricultural policies. We invite researchers, scholars, and practitioners to contribute original research articles, review papers, and short communications addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:

    • Economic analysis of bioenergy production and markets
    • Socio-economic implications of bioenergy projects on rural communities
    • Policy frameworks and regulatory mechanisms for promoting sustainable bioenergy
    • Case studies and comparative analyses of bioenergy projects worldwide
    • Integration of bioenergy with existing agricultural practices and supply chains
    • Land-water-energy-food nexus assessment of bioenergy systems

  • RWAE representatives successfully participated in the International Academic Conference hosted at Peking University

    We are pleased to announce that our Publishing Editor, Daisy Zhang, actively participated in the prestigious international conference, "Pathway and Policies of Successful Rural Transformation in Asian Developing Countries" hosted at Peking University, on 6th December 2023. She was invited by our Associate Editor, Prof. Dr. Yu Sheng, and attended the event along with scholars from China, Australia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and other nations. The conference aimed to discuss rural transformation and policies in developing countries across Asia.

    During the conference, Daisy had the privilege of interacting with Associate Editor Prof. Sheng and other scholars. She talked about the evolving landscape of Research on World Agricultural Economy (RWAE) and introduced the audience to the journal. The scholars present, belonging to different geographical backgrounds, showed a keen interest in our journal.

    Professor Van Huylenbroeck is currently a professor of Agricultural Economics at Ghent University, Belgium. He is the former Dean of the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering at Ghent University, and has also served as the President of the European Association of Agricultural Economists. He has authored over 350 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and is widely recognized as a leading scholar in his field.

    We are pleasure to announce the appointment of Prof. Yu Sheng as the Associate Editor of Research on World Agricultural Economy.

    Prof. Yu Sheng is a full professor and deputy director of China Centre for Agricultural Policy, Peking University. His research focuses on agricultural productivity and rural development, resource and environmental economics, international trade theory and policy, CGE modelling and China economy. He is currently the president of the East Asia Branch, Australian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society (AARES), the vice president of Asian Society of Agricultural Economists (ASAE), and serve as an associate editor of Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics (AJARE). Since 2011, he has published more than 100 articles in international peer-reviewed journals including American Journal of Agricultural Economics, World Development, Energy Economics, Journal of International Money and Finance, Canadian Journal of Economics, Review of Income and Wealth, Food Policies, and Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics etc.

  • Congratulations! Prof. Jesus Simal-Gandara as the Associate Editor of Research on World Agricultural Economy

    Jesus Simal-Gandara, Professor in Nutrition and Food Science at the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, University of Vigo (Spain). He was 1st Spanish Award of Completion of Pharmacy and PhD Prize at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain). He also was Associate Professor in 1991 at the University of Vigo, where he is Full Professor since 1999. He now leads a research group of excellence at NW Spain, in addition to CIA3 (Environmental, Agricultural and Food Research Center) formed by 10 research groups from different fields (botany, plant physiology, soil science and agricultural chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology, nutrition and food science, biotechnology, food technology, food rheology, chemical engineering, and colloidal chemistry), and also is the Head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry and Food Science at the University of Vigo. He performed research stays at the Université de Paris-Sud (Paris, France), University of Delaware (Newark, USA), Fraunhofer-Institut für Lebensmitteltechnologie und Verpackung (Munich, Germany), Central Science Laboratory (Norwich and York, UK), TNO-Voeding (Zeist, Netherlands), Packaging Industries Research Association (Leatherhead, UK) and The Swedish Institute for Food and Biotechnology (Gothenburg, Sweden). He is editor of 4 national books. He published book chapters in 10 national and 14 international books. He directed 15 doctoral theses and participated in lots of competitive research projects, of which he was principal investigator at 20. He has numerous publications in international journals (http://scholar.google.es/citations?user=rmeHFXIAAAAJ&hl=es&oi=ao). His research group is specialized in chromatographic separations (GC-MS and LC-MS) and molecular biology and proteomics. He investigates the distribution of agricultural and environmental organic chemical contaminants in the food production chain, and how improving the sensory and functional quality of food, with an eye on the food chain globally, integrating environment, agriculture and food with nutrition and public health issues. His focus today is on the study of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) from the point of view of public health (epidemiology, toxicity of mixtures, metabolites ...), and on the study of secondary metabolites in plant foods, exploring the molecular mechanisms that explain their activity.
